1800s Divided Wall Box in Bittersweet

  • Early, primitive wall box in original bittersweet milk paint.

    Old repair to the hanging hole, made with a metal strip and bent to accommodate a nail.

    Center divider running side to side. Probably made to hold candles.  Wall boxes were useful for candles to keep them away from mice.

    Canted sides, 1/4" base extension, strong nail oxidation.

    13" x 8 1/2" x 6" tall at the back, 3" at the front.

    Solid condition with paint wear, usage wear.

    Found in upstate New York and dating from the late. 1800s.
