18th C Onion Bottle

  • Bulbous, heavy bottom glass bottle, often called an "onion" bottle because of its shape.

    Used to transport whiskey on ships from Holland to the New World during the 1700s.

    Nearly opaque dark green glass, long tpaered neck, deep pontil.

    Very good condition with very minor roughness at the spout.

    7 1/2" tall, 5 1/2" wide at the bottom.

    Found in coastal Massachusetts, Dutch origin, ca 1750-80.
