19th C Wooden Foot Warmer in Original Red

19th C Wooden Foot Warmer in Original Red

  • Wooden foot warmers of this type are rare.

Coals were not put directly into it, but held in a metal pot which was inserted into it. The wood would still get hot, but, hopefully, not burn.

This one originally had a wire carrying handle for that reason.  One eye to hold it remais.

The holes are punched in decorative diamond patterns.

The back sits in grooves so that it can slide out to put in the coals. (It no longer slides due to age).

    Original bittersweet red milk paint.

    Hand cut T head nails.

The edge of the bottom has broken off.

Very attractive for a foot warmer!  Great addition to primitive decor.

    10 1/2" x 8 1/4" x 6 1/4" tall.

Found in New Hampshire and dating from the early 1800s.
