This is a very early, small tin and glass candle lantern with a double domed top with a carrying ring.

The back is tin with a handle, and it pulls up for access to the candle.

The candle socket is cleated through the base.

A couple of small rust holes on the back plate and some roughness to the sides which hold the glass.  All very solid and secure.

10 1/4" tall, not including carrying ring,  4" square.

Found in Massachusetts and dating from the early to mid 1800s.
