Early, Primitive Seed Box with Leather Hinges
Early, Primitive Seed Box with Leather Hinges
$135.00Price
This is a very primitive box with some interesting features.
There is incised decoration on the front - very worn.
The hinges are leather straps.
The interior is divided. There is an old metal repair, probably covering a mouse hold on one side, leading me to conclude that this was used for seeds. It is too primitive for spices or herbs.
Worn smooth from use.
8 2/3" long x 3 1/2" deep, x 3 1/2" tall.
Scuffs and wear, one leather hinge may be a replacement.
Found in Massachusetts and dating from the early 1800s.
