Early Splayed Paint Decorated Cricket Stool

Early Splayed Paint Decorated Cricket Stool

  • Small, carefully crafted cricket bench with an unusual domed top.

It was originally meant to hold fabric, tacked to the edges of the top.  The domed shape makes it look like the seat was cushioned!

Very beautifully made, probably as a gift for a child.

Original paint decoration - swirls and lines in green and yellow on dark blue - original paint.  The top which was under cloth was originally unpainted.

Splayed legs with a nicely shaped skirt and bootjack ends.

Sturdy and useable.  Tack holes at the edges where fabric had been attached. Square nails.

    10 3/4" x 5 1/2" x 8" tall.

Found in New Hampshire and dating from the early 1800s.
