Folk Art Ship Diorama

Folk Art Ship Diorama

  • Hand carved half hull sailing ship in oil on board.

The waves have been fashioned with painted plaster, so they are raised and very realistic looking.

The hull is wood as are the masts.  The sails are painted tin.

It never had a cover and was hung by the rope strung through the top sides and across the back.

There is partial wire rigging and old nails in the masts indicating that it must have gone across all of them at one time.

    24" x 13 1/2".

Mellow colors, clean and still vibrant.  Some of the plaster is missing on the lower right.

Found in Coastal Maine and dating from the early 1900s.
