Mary Smyth's 1826 Marking Sampler

Mary Smyth's 1826 Marking Sampler

  • Extremely finely stitched marking sampler by Mary Smyth.

    Zigzag border all around.

4 alphabets, double numbers 1-16, and then one 17.

Below this she stitched a poem: " All Youth, set right at first with ease go on, And each new task is with new pleasure done, But if neglected till they grow in years, And each fond Mother her dear darling spares, Error becomes habitual, and you'll find Tis then hard larour to reform the mind."

I think Mary's mother made her stitch that!

At the bottom it says "The work of Mary Smyth finished June 8th 1826."

Framed in a simple black frame. (needs hanging wire).

Very good condition:  One darkened area at the top right.  No stitch loss, holes or other damage.

    13" x 13"

    Dating from 1826.
